「當我在家時，我的一天總是從演奏巴哈開始，以前是坐在鋼琴上，現在是在小鍵琴上，我感到重生了。」在錄製了巴哈（Johann Sebastian Bach）一些最重要的作品之後，我們這個時代最偉大的巴哈詮釋者之一席夫（András Schiff），將注意力轉向了巴哈最愛的樂器－小鍵琴（Clavichord）。不論用來練習或者模仿使用，巴哈都認為小鍵琴是學習音樂和透過音樂來表達最細緻感情的最佳樂器，席夫說小鍵琴的聲音「是對一個新世界的邀請，是我們吵雜、動盪時代中一片寧靜的綠洲。多虧小鍵琴，我現在演奏和聆聽巴哈的方式都不同了」。正如席夫所說，小鍵琴也可以是一位苛刻無情的老師，「在小鍵琴上，我們只有手指可以使用，他們必須用最好的觸覺來創作音樂」，這個早期的鍵盤樂器，讓我們更接近巴哈時代的聲音。專輯中席夫使用1743年Specken樂器的複製品，是由比利時工匠Joris Potvlieghe製作。這張專輯是在貝多芬的故居Kammermusik Saal 錄製的，由Manfred Eicher製作。
